SmileMakers Light Up Tongue Pop Balls are a great toy for the child that has goals in the area of gross motor development or sensory stimulation. These toys light up and have a fun tongue that pulls out. They are so exciting for young children and will allow them to work on areas of development but focus mostly on the fun they are having.

Light Up Balls for the Win!

Gross motor development is important to a child's ability to stand alone, walk, and run like their same aged peers. Early Interventionists and Physical Therapists work on these skills to assist patients in everyday activities. Using this toy in your sessions will make the time you spend with your patient fun and exciting.

I have found that these balls get patients moving. Rolling the ball gets the child to bend down and roll the ball back and forth. The ball lights up and the face is funny as it rolls making the activity so much more exciting for the child to use. Different stages of development will allow you to use this toy for any child at any stage. As development increases you can take turns with them throwing and catching the ball. An older child can work on gross motor development by throwing the ball at the wall or side of a building and then attempting to catch it. Make it a game and see if they do this ten times without missing. Each time the toy lights up, it's rewarding for the child.

Some children face the struggle of not processing touch, sound, and sight the same as others. This ball can be used to assist in meeting the needs of children with sensory integration disorder. This little toy can also be used for sensory input for children who need it. Pulling the tongue provides sensory stimulation and the light does as well. These toys come in handy when a child is facing a stressful situation and needs sensory stimulation to calm them down. The feel of the ball itself has a calming effect because of the squishy nature. The child can grasp the ball as hard or as light as they need to reach the level of sensory input that they need.

These balls would be a great addition to an Early Intervention or Therapy practice to add fun and meet the goals of the children that are on your caseload. They are so affordable and come in a set of twelve so you can plenty to share with other early interventionists or therapists. SmileMakers has a variety of products that can make meeting the patients goals fun!
